The big B-day

I turned 30 a few weeks ago.  Yes, 30.  And I am really starting to feel old.  Not only does my brain never work the way it should, but I keep having experiences where I realize I'm older than I thought.  Here's an example: I just finished the 2nd Hunger Games book (I know, I'm a little behind the times) so I looked up the movie online to see when it was going to come out.  In looking this up, I learned two things: 1. The movie will be out at the end of next year, and 2. I am closer in age to the actress that plays Effie Trinket than to the main characters!  Why was this shocking to me?  Mostly because I still think of myself in my low-mid twenties.  I know that the actual characters in the book are like, 17. But even knowing that, I feel closer in age to them than to the actual adults in the story.  Yes, I know I have three children.  Yes, I know that my hair with it's plethora of silver strands probably makes me look years older than I already am.  And maybe now that I'm out of my twenties entirely, I'll have to realize that I am no longer 25, but who knows.
Anyway, my birthday.  We didn't do too much this year to celebrate.  I got to do some very rare selfish shopping thanks to my wonderful mom and mother in law.  They are great and always make sure I take time for myself.  Jason and I went out to dinner and I made myself a yummy cake.  Which of course are the only pictures we've got.  Here you go.

We really put 30 candles on.

Yes, Batman was at my birthday party.  I am a lucky girl.
Dexter really had no idea what was going on.

The cake.  Peanut Butter cake with chocolate frosting in-between the layers and peanut butter frosting (the best part of the whole thing) on top.  I made the layers different colors just for fun, because I could.

Addie liked it!l.;

We are super cool

Also while Grandma and Kim were there, Jason and I took advantage and went on a much needed date.  We decided to go to a second hand sports store and we were able to find some AWESOME rollerblades!  Neither of us had "bladed" since our junior high or high school days, and we started off a little wobbly, but it was a lot of fun and hopefully will be a good way we can spend time together now that we have a little more time.

Everyone came out to see us try them out.

While we were "racing" Addie and Andres were cheering us on.

I won.

Jason lost.

Fall Pictures

Aunt Kimberly came to visit a few weeks ago and we took advantage of her mad camera skills (and her really nice camera).  We drove a few minutes out of town to this really cool historical octagonal barn.  We got some really good pictures and had a fine time getting everyone to smile and look and not pick their noses.

In the car, this little girl was a little grumpy and I was worried that we would have issues trying to keep everyone happy, but as soon as we got out of the car, she would pose and ask for Kim to take her picture!

Trying to get Andres to smile for some reason was really hard during this shot.  There are about 50 pictures that are all pretty much the same; Addie and Dexter so happy and Andres looking . . .well, you can see.

One of my favorites - everyone is looking and happy!

A bit later, he was getting into it and gave us a variety of his wonderful smiles.

Superhero Obsession

We have a two-year old who is obsessed with superheroes.  His favorites are Batman and Ironman.  And Captain America and Hulk and Spiderman and Buzz Lightyear.  He likes to talk about them, play like them, run fast or 'fly' like them, color them.  He even uses them as names for colors.  Black is now called Batman and red is Iron Man.  Its a lot of fun to see him so excited about something.
All decked out as Batman.  These pajamas were the best $5 I ever spent (except that once he has them on, it takes a force of nature to get them off of him so that I can wash them).

His super cool Iron Man suit.  He loves this and will wear it everywhere.

Life as a Superhero is exhausting.
