Laid back Thanksgiving

Here are some pictures from our very relaxing, easy going Thanksgiving. It was a first for us to be on our own and to even be in our own home on this wonderful holiday. We decided to just take it easy and it was very nice. Here's Addie having a little snack in the afternoon - we were trying to get her all cozy in hopes that she would take a nap, but it didn't work.
These two didn't really need any convincing. They knew exactly what to do.

Here's our turkey breast (there was no way we were going to cook a whole turkey for just us). We brined it and roasted it and it sure was tasty!

And here's the rest of the meal: roasted vegetables (Andres and I loved them, and nobody else would even try them), mashed potatoes and gravy (do you like our fancy gravy boat mug?), and rolls. I forgot to make the stuffing (it could have been on purpose), but no one seemed to notice at the time.

We started a new tradition this year that both Jason and I like a lot. Jason and Addie ran to the gas station on Thursday morning to get the newspaper with all the Black Friday ads. We spread them all out and looked through all the sales while we had breakfast and watched the parade. It was a lot of fun, and I didn't think we were going to get any of it. More like window shopping. But some of it was a little too exciting for Jason. He decided he needed to try the whole crazy black friday thing. So he called his friend who usually goes and they made a plan. They left around 8:30 Thursday night to get to Toys R Us, which opened at 10pm and got some good deals and now our Christmas shopping for the kids is done. Then they went right over to Target, which didn't open until 4am. They were about 20th in line and had to wait about 4 hours, but they did it, in very cold weather. And it paid off. They were the first to get THE TV; the one on the front of their add that everyone was trying to get. Jason was pretty excited and tired when he got home around 5. We let him sleep for a couple hours and then he got up to tell the tale and to set up the tv. Here is Addie helping him.

Wow, amazing commitment! I did a little shopping Friday morning but it was at 6 am which isn't bad and I didn't have to stand in any lines.

I love that picture where you are hoping Addie will fall asleep. That never works for us either!

It is fun to see pictures to go with the stories. I had forgotten to ask about the brining. It looks like the meal was great. The veggies look great! I would have eaten them!
