Vacation Day - Lobster

The last few summers we've been lucky enough to go and visit family and to have lots of fun with them. Not this summer. This summer we are poor, or at least more poor than usual. There are several reasons for this despite us being really diligent with our budget and having several months of "no spending":
1. The kids and I already took a trip out to Utah and did lots of fun things with family.
2. Jason got to go to Jamaica. Even though the reason was to give service, he still went to Jamaica.
3. Our stupid car decided now was a good time to need several hundred dollars worth of repair.
Anyway, needless to say, we are staying home this summer. But it's alright. Jason only has two weeks of a break. And in a few days his parents are coming to visit us - Yah! But for these few days on our own, we have been trying to figure out what to do. If it weren't for the stupid car we would be able to do lots of the fun things that are around here. But as it is, we can't even afford the extra gas to get us to something that's an hour away. Bummer.
So what are we going to do? We are going to make the most of it and try to have fun any way we can. One way we can splurge a little is on food (don't make me say it out loud, I already told you we are poor). So each night this week we are going to make the foods that we would be able to have if we were on vacation with our families.
Our first adventure was just that, an adventure. Neither Jason or I have ever tried Lobster. So we decided now was a good time. Jason looked up how to cook it and we went to our local grocery store and bought 2 live lobsters.
I was not really all that excited about this because I don't really like sea food and it just seemed complicated. But when Jason said that he would make it if I would be willing to try it, I couldn't pass it up. Addie watched as the girl got our Lobsters out and put them in the boxes. On the way home we were telling her that we were going to take them home to eat them. Direct quote: "We can't do that! They'll walk all over our kitchen!" Hopefully this does not scar her for life.
Getting the little guys to the pot. Sorry the pictures are kind of blurry. One of the lobsters was flicking it's tail and splashing me and it freaked me out.
All done:

Addie, of course, did not even want to try it. But she and Andres both devoured the corn.
And just to show that we're not ALL about food at our house, here's a picture from the park. We had a lot of fun until Andres walked right under a moving swing. In this picture he's actually not even crying about his head; he got over that pretty quick. He's crying because he can see the pool and wants to go in but the fence was too high for him to climb. Life is rough.

You are brave to cook those lobsters. Did they squeal?!?! I heard they squeal when you cook them. Gross. I don't like Lobster so that is totally not worth it to me. We're too poor to travel this summer too. Good for you for having a "stay-cation!"

We are in a similiar boat as you guys this summer. We are fortunate that my parents are only about 2 hours away, otherwise we wouldn't be going anywhere for vacation. Both of our cars decided to have expensive "issues" within just a few weeks of each other. Gotta love older cars! We certainly haven't gotten as creative as you with food. That lobster looks fantastic! I am way jealous!

I love how you and Jason both have such sense of adventure. The pictures are priceless. I love lobster but have never cooked it. I'l come to your house for it.
